Public Notice and Invitation

Community engagement, integrity of ethics and transparency, and meaningful partnerships with community stakeholders will be paramount to the success of this clean-up and reuse project. We have launched this website to communicate project status updates, reports, and other critical information. The first phase of this project involves gathering public feedback and input to build our EPA grant application.

Project Updates and Public Feedback

Houston Land Bank commits to publicly posting reports and drafts related to this project here.

For those who prefer physical copies, they will be available for viewing at The Flores Neighborhood Library, located at 110 N Milby St., Houston, TX 77003.

Public Comment Period

HLB will be accepting written comments on the EPA grant and draft the Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup (ABCA) report from October 23-October 30, 2023, closing at 5 p.m. During this period, you can contribute your valuable insights and perspectives in two ways:

  1. Public Community Meeting: Join us for a public community meeting on October 26, from 6:30-8:00 p.m. at the HCC Felix Fraga Academic Campus, 301 Drennan St, Houston, TX 77003

  2. Website Comment Area: We encourage the community to utilize the comment section on this page to submit public comments. All feedback that adheres to community standards and guidelines will be thoughtfully considered.

Transparency and Partnership:

HLB actively seeks stakeholder partnerships and opportunities for collaboration with community members and organizations. To ensure transparency, we will publicly post responses to questions we receive regarding the Analysis of Brownfields Cleanup (ABCA) and grant application by November 13.

To keep the public informed and maintain a strong connection with our community partners, HLB will continue to host public meetings and share milestone activities and updates throughout the duration of the land banking agreement.

For more opportunities to participate, please follow the project here at BankingVelasco.org, call our office at 281-655-4600, or email us at brownfields@houstonlandbank.org

Your engagement and input are invaluable to the success of this project, and we look forward to your active participation in shaping the future of the Velasco Incinerator Project.

This project embodies the core values of the Houston Land Bank, actively transforming our communities for the better," remarked Christa Stoneham, CEO of HLB. "We believe in the power of collaboration and need for environmental justice, and by aligning with the City of Houston, we are taking a momentous step towards restoring not only the environmental integrity of the Velasco Incinerator Site but also rejuvenating the spirit of our local communities.

We encourage the community to utilize this comment section to add public comments.

All feedback, that is not in violation of community standards and guidelines and received by the public comment period, will be included.
